January Climbing Lock-in

Date: Friday, January 28th, 2022 – Saturday, January 29th, 2022
Location: Vertical Rock, 10225 Nokesville Rd, Manassas, VA 20110
Transportation will NOT be provided. Arrive at Vertical Rock at the appropriate time, pickup no later than 7am on Saturday.
Attendees will be spending the night at Vertical Rock where we will have the gym to ourselves for an entire night of climbing fun.
The evening starts out with an introduction to climbing safety and correct use of equipment. Once properly trained the scouts will be allowed to belay each other while climbing the wall. For those that don’t feel comfortable with that height there is a bouldering wall which doesn’t require ropes.
The Vertical Rock staff and Scoutmasters are the final word on being allowed to climb. In particular, scouts aged 12 and under will need to demonstrate safety and maturity to continue climbing the full wall after the instruction period.
Scouts may bring board games to play if they need a break from climbing. We will set aside an area for sleeping/resting, so consider a sleeping bag and pillow.
Eat dinner before arriving. Snacks will be provided during the event by the troop and are part of the fee.
Masks: Masks will be required with the exception of eating and sleeping.
Clothing: Wear athletic clothing that allows for movement. Tennis shoes are needed for climbing. Crocs/Sandals will not work.
Cancellation Information:
We need to maintain a minimum of 25 attendees. Because of this, we may not be able to honor individual cancellations. We might be able to step down from the Climbing Merit Badge cost to the Climbing Only cost. Individual cancellation will be on a case-by-case basis and dependent on the number of registered scouts and the time until the event.
If the Troop cancels, we will refund everyone that signed up.
Troop cancellation is possible if the schools close due to Covid. Or, if there is inclement weather. A school closure due to weather doesn’t mean we will cancel; we will assess the situation on our side of the county.

Climbing Only: Time: 9pm to 7am; Cost: $39.
Climbing Merit Badge: Time: 7pm to 7am; Cost: $99. The Climbing Merit Badge starts 2 hours earlier for classroom time.
