January 2024 – Submarine Overnighter – USS Torsk
What: Overnight Campout on the USS Torsk
When: 1/19/2024 – 1/20/2024
Where: 301 E Pratt St, Baltimore, MD 21202
Departure Details: We’ll be meeting at FUPCDC at 4 PM on Friday – leaving at 4:30 PM (due to the distance involved and the likelihood of encountering traffic, we must depart no later than 4:30 PM.
Return Details: We anticipate returning on Saturday sometime around 2:00 PM
Event Details: Scouts and adults will be spending the night aboard the USS Torsk – a WWII-era submarine. In addition to the overnight, there will be hands-on demonstrations and the opportunity to explore the USS Constellation (a sloop-of-war built in 1854), LV116 Chesapeake (a Lightship built in 1930), and USCG Cutter 37 (a Coast Guard Cutter built in the 1930s). Scouts (and adults) will also be engaged in the Overnight Watch program. This is a great opportunity to do something different – while staying someplace warm!
Friday dinner and Saturday breakfast will be provided, on the ship. Scouts should eat a hearty snack or meal before arriving at the church.
For our return trip, Scouts should bring $10 to $15 (in addition to any funds reserved for the gift shop) as we will be stopping for a quick fast food meal as we return to the church on Saturday.

Uniform: Class B Uniforms for Friday and Saturday (Red Class B’s are preferred)
What to bring: See the list below. Items should be packed into a small bag as space aboard the submarine is limited.
- Sleeping bag/pillow
- Flashlight
- Toiletries – toothbrush, toothpaste, etc)
- Canteen/water bottle
- Sleeping apparel
- Change of clothes for Saturday
- Jacket/hat/gloves

Liability Release: All participants (youth and adults) need to complete a liability waiver. These should be given to Mr. Steudle before arriving at the church on Friday as they must be sent prior to our arrival. Please visit the following link to access the waiver. Health & COVID Safety: Much of scouting brings individuals closer than 6 feet. The troop will follow local health department ordinances. Scouts will be asked general health questions and have a touchless temperature taken at arrival. Scouts may tent with a parent if necessary for COVID accommodations.
Cellphone Policy: Cell phones are a prohibited item as per troop policy. Per troop policy, the troop will allow cell phones to be used during the car ride to the event and the car ride home. Troop 964 will not be responsible for lost, stolen, or broken cell phones. Parents and scouts not in agreement with this policy should refrain from attending this troop event.
Scout Behavior: Please discuss with your scout that living up to the Scout Oath and Law is expected at all Troop 964 Events or events attended with Troop 964. Troop 964 will not tolerate harassment of any kind. Unit Leaders will have a (1) strike policy. Parents will be contacted to pick up their scout if any behavior issues are encountered. This is non-negotiable.
