December 2021 – Gaming Lock-in
Event Details:
- When: Friday December 10th, 2021 – 5:00PM to December 11th 7:00AM
- Where: First United Presbyterian Church, Dale City
- Cost: $10/scout, Adult Volunteers Free
- Food: Pizza Hut Pizza and Wings / Breakfast: TBD, likely cereal & donuts
- Events:
- 5:30 PM: All scouts attend Cyber Chip classes
- 7:00 PM: Optional Digital Technology Merit Badge Class
- Until 12:00 AM – Open Gaming, Video Games, Board Games, Card Games
- 12:00 AM – Lights out, Sanctuary designated for sleeping area
- Parents may elect to pick-up their scout prior to 12:00 if they prefer
- 6:00 AM – Wake-up, breakfast
- 7:00 AM – Scouts depart to assist or participate in 5K
- Register / Pay / Permission Slip Online: 2021 December Lock-In Sign-up – See email for password
- Register up to 5 scouts at once, no need to complete multiple times
- Sign-up to bring video game consoles and TVs too
- Pay via credit card, check/cash or Scout Account
- Masking: All persons must wear masks at all time within the church. Exception will be while eating, drinking or sleeping.
Event Specifics & Need to Know
What to Bring:
- Clothing:
- Scouts should dress in casual clothes they can comfortably sleep in
- Scouts should bring a change of clothes to wear to the 5K on December 11th
- Rooms will be designated by Patrol to change and ensure privacy
- Sleeping gear:
- Sleeping bag
- Pillow
- Sign-up to bring video game consoles and TVs. Please bring a power strip if possible
- Troop 964 takes no responsibility for the safe travel and use of provided video game systems
- Bring board games, card games, chess and checkers
Cyber Chip Class:
All scouts attending will take the BSA Cyber Chip class offered by the troop. This is not optional. Please ensure your scout brings a completed contract to the lock-in. Classes will cover all requirements as identified by the BSA and will be taught by Adult Leaders assisted by scouts.
Prerequisite: Complete a signed personalized contract. Create your own, or use this sample. Please tailor to your needs.
Digital Technology Merit Badge: (OPTIONAL) – BSA Digital Technology Merit Badge Requirements
Scouts who wish to take the Digital Technology Merit Badge class will then attend a 1.5 hour session to cover a large number of the Merit Badge requirements taught by an Adult Leader assisted by a senior scout. Scouts do NOT need to complete a worksheet, though many find it helpful to have a way to document their work. Worksheet here.
Items not covered in class:
- 4.b. Complete with your family:
- Name four software programs or mobile apps you or your family use, and explain how each one helps you.
- 5.b. Complete before or after merit badge class:
- Using an internet search engine (with your parent or guardian’s permission), find ideas from at least three different websites about how to conduct a troop court of honor or campfire program.
- 6. Complete before or after merit badge class. Review 8 options and complete 3.
- 9. Complete before or after merit badge class: Do one of the following:
- a. Investigate three career opportunities that involve digital technology.
- b. Visit a business or an industrial facility that uses digital technology.
Video Games: All video games brought to the lock-in MUST be E or E10+. No other ratings will be permitted.
