What: Troop 964 Cabin Campout
When: 02/07/25 to 02/09/25
Where: Horseshoe Scout Reservation – Browning Lodge, 1286 Ridge Road, Rising Sun, MD 21911
Departure Details: Meet 4:30 at First United Presbyterian Church of Dale City, Depart by 5:30. Scouts should eat prior to arrival or pack a meal to eat on the way.
Return Details: Return to the church on Sunday at 12 PM
Uniform: Class B uniforms for departure on Friday
Event Details: This is a fantastic opportunity to camp in a 120 year old cabin while the adults do all the cooking!
Some of our activities include orienteering course, competition activities, (hot isotope, knots, rescue rope throwing, fire starting).
Chess/checkers tournament and movie Saturday night with a dessert competition.
What to bring: Check Scout Handbook for Camping Packing List including clothing for the weather (cold), mess kit, and water bottle, camp chair. It is February – Scouts and Adults should anticipate that the weather will be cold (yes we are in a cabin however will be outside a lot)! Still bring a good sleeping bag and pad.

Cellphone Policy: Cell phones are a prohibited item as per troop policy. Per troop policy, the troop will allow cell phones to be used during the car ride to the event and the car ride home. Troop 964 will not be responsible for lost, stolen, or broken cell phones. Parents and scouts not in agreement with this policy should refrain from attending this troop event.
Scout Behavior: Please discuss with your scout that living up to the Scout Oath and Law is expected at all Troop 964 Events or event attended with Troop 964. Troop 964 will not tolerate harassment of any kind. Unit Leaders will have a (1) strike policy. Parents will be contacted to pick up their scout if any behavior issues are encountered. This is non-negotiable.
What: December 2024 – Indoor Climbing Night @ Vertical Rock
When: Friday, December 20 – 8:45 PM to Saturday, December 21 – 7:00 AM
Where: Vertical Rock – 10225 Nokesville Rd, Manassas, VA 20110
Transportation will NOT be provided
Event Details: We’ll be meeting at Vertical Rock in Manassas. Scouts should arrive by 8:45 PM as climbing instruction will start promptly at 9:00 PM. Scouts will have two hours of instruction and supervision on the indoor rock walls. For those who aren’t comfortable with the heights, there is a bouldering wall that does not require ropes.
Additionally, there is an option for scouts to earn the Climbing merit badge for an additional $65. All scouts who elect to take the Climbing merit badge program will need to arrive ready to climb at 7:00 PM. *NOTE—For this program to happen, at least five scouts must be registered.
We’ll have pizza, snacks, and drinks during the evening. Scouts should arrive having eaten dinner.
While this is a lock-in, Scouts should bring a sleeping bag and items like a water bottle, toothbrush, and toothpaste.
Uniform: Wear athletic clothing that allows for movement. Sneakers are needed for climbing – no Crocs or sandals.

Registration Fee: $40.00 (per person)—This includes climbing instruction, harness rental, and pizza/snacks/drinks supplied by the Troop.
If your scout is participating in the Climbing merit badge class they will need to pay an additional $65 for a total of $105.
