What: Troop 964 Shooting Sports Campout

When:  11/22/24 to 11/24/24

Where:  Izaak Walton League of Alexandria – 2729 Garrisonville Rd., Stafford VA 22556

Departure Details: Meet 4:30 at First United Presbyterian Church of Dale City, Depart by 5:30. Scouts should eat prior to arrival or pack a meal to eat on the way.

Return Details: Return to the church on Sunday at 10 AM

Uniform: Class B uniforms for departure on Friday

Event Details:

All Scouts attending this campout will be required to attend the classroom training being held during the Troop meeting on Tuesday, November 19th.

Scouts will be shooting .22 caliber rifles on Saturday. This is a fun shoot and not designed to be a merit badge opportunity – we encourage Scouts looking to earn rifle merit badge to take this at Summer Camp. Since Scouts will be rotating throughout the morning and mid-afternoon at the rifle range, there are other activities available such as fishing, field sports, and time for rank requirements.

We also plan to hold a flag retirement ceremony on Saturday evening. If you have any flags that need to be retired, please bring those.

What to bring: Check Scout Handbook for Camping Packing List including clothing for the weather (rain or shine), mess kit, and water bottle, camp chair. It is November – Scouts and Adults should anticipate that the weather will be cold at night! If you don’t have a cold weather sleeping bag, consider bringing two sleeping bags. A good sleeping pad is very important, especially in cooler temperatures to stay off the ground.

What NOT to bring: NO personal firearms. This is prohibited per Scouting USA and Troop Policy.

Event Open to: Scouts and Adults Registered with the troop

Registration Deadline: 11/17 by Midnight

Registration Fee: Scouts – $23. Adults – $20

Cost Basis: Food: $20.00 ($5.00/meal x 4 meals – Saturday breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday Breakfast) plus $3 for firearm maintenance (Scouts only).

Additional Activities: Besides shooting, Scouts will have the opportunity to fish and play field games. If Scouts desire to fish, please bring your own gear – rod, tackle, and bait. Izaak Walton does have a stocked pond (panfish, bass, etc.)- I have no idea if they will be biting this late in the season.

Cellphone Policy: Cell phones are a prohibited item as per troop policy.  Per troop policy, the troop will allow cell phones to be used during the car ride to the event and the car ride home.  Troop 964 will not be responsible for lost, stolen, or broken cell phones.  Parents and scouts not in agreement with this policy should refrain from attending this troop event.

Scout Behavior: Please discuss with your scout that living up to the Scout Oath and Law is expected at all Troop 964 Events or event attended with Troop 964. Troop 964 will not tolerate harassment of any kind.  Unit Leaders will have a (1) strike policy.  Parents will be contacted to pick up their scout if any behavior issues are encountered.  This is non-negotiable.

What: October 2024 – Arrow of Light Campout

When:  10/18/2024 – 10/20/2024

Where:  Dugan Park – 6040 Greenway Ct., Manassas VA 20112

Return Details: Anticipate Scouts returning to FUPCDC around 10:00 AM on Sunday

Event Details: AOL Recruiting Event, Adult Trebuchet Demonstrations, Model Rocket Launching, Campfire Event, Leadership Skills, Gaga Ball.

Uniform: Class A Uniform for Friday Departure and Saturday for AOL Events.

What to bring: This event will be outdoors in October. Check Scout Handbook for Camping Packing List including clothing for the weather (rain or shine), mess kit, and water bottle, camp chair. Scouts should have cold-weather sleeping bags. Scouts should bring a jacket, hat, and gloves – it does get cold in October!

Feel free to bring pumpkins, large fruit (such as pineapples) or gallon jugs (filled with water) for the trebuchet demonstration.

Event Open to: Scouts / Adults Registered with the Troop (Participants must camp, no “day only” registrations for the Troop)
