Train Show - March 2012

 

This year's Train Show was to raise funds in support of Japasnese Scout Association Troop 2 of Ishinomaki in order to rebuild their Troop which lost everything, including members, in the horrible earthquake and following tsumami which occured on March 11, 2011.

Visitors wander through the large O scale layout in the main gym  "Hot dog please," the boy asks at the Club Car.  Lots of goodies available! During lunch, large lego layout provides entetainment to young and old Display showing the last 4 years of custom train show patches  Troop 964 Scouts greet the Japanese Ambassador upon his arrival at the show.  

Show Coordinator Mr. Wetzel and Troop 964 Scout Master Mr. Schwerzler greet the AMbassador on his arrival.  Mr. Wetzel shows the Ambassador the way  The Ambassador views Mt. Fuji, rendered in N Scale, whille he waits for the bullet train.  A Northern Virginia NTRAK member explains the intricacies of N Scale modeling.    NTRAK member gives the Ambassador even more details on modeling scenery.

The Ambassador assists a young girl to see the trains while her family watches. The Z Scale layout sits high so viewers can see the details.  Club member from the DC ZBend Track explains the tiny scale.  Ambassador moves the animals in the barnyard for the S Scale layout while members of the Atlantic Coast Washington & OD Division explain the workings of the building. Ambassador enjoying the details of the S Gage Layout. Ambassador greets three Troop 964 Scouts & owner of a live steam G scale train that requires no electricity.   

The Ambassador discusses the live steam G scale train with the owner from the Diesel-Electric Engines and four Troop 964 Scouts.  The Ambassador poses with the members of the National Capitall Trackers O-Gauge Railroad Club.  Troop 964 Scout Master Mr. Schwerzler and Troop Commitee Chairman Mr. Young present the ceremonial check along with over 100 Scouts from the area.  Troop 964 Scout Master Mr. Schwerzler presents the Ambassador with the ceremonial check.  A minimum of $3,000 USD was promised, however, the final amount is expected to be larger.  Ms. Myca Gray, Principal of Saunders Middle School, host of the Train Show, presents the Ambassador with a Saunders t-shirt.  Thank you Ms. Gray!

The Ambassador, being a good sport, put on the t-shirt!   The Ambassador offered a gift to all scouts and siblings present, a bracelet with "Gratitude Friendship Bond Arigato From Japan" written in Japanese.  The Ambassador posed with all Scouts present after his stirring speech expressing his gratitude for the assistance to Troop 2.  The Ambassador poses with members of the Washington Metropolitan Area Lego Train Club.  Asst. The Ambassador poses with 3 Troop 964 in front of the newly built HO modules.  He met with the Scouts privately to express his thanks for their assistance to Troop 2.  Mr. Wetzel and the Ambassador pose for a picture in front of the newly built modules.  The Japan Rail Modelers of Washington, DC club poses for a picture with the Ambassador and "Godzilla".  Scouts in the Merit Badge program prepare to learn about how to plan a trip via Amtrak.  Scouts in the Merit Badge program learn the best way to build an HO Scale train car. 

Thank You to BT Trains who is furthering the fund raising by selling the custom HO cars on EBay.  An abundance of raffle prizes were offered, all donated by various vendors and a modeler who wanted to reduce his clutter while helping a great cause at the same time.  Goldfish get a ride on an O scale train.  Participants in the Merit Badge Program are always invited to the HO scale layout to try out the model train car that they built during the program.  A western themed N Scale amusement park incorporated into the HO layout.
